Local law enforcement and the Richmond High School administration have investigated reports of threats made late last night via social media. The threats were rumored to be about potential violence at the high school. It was quickly determined to not be credible. We wish to reassure our families that we have continued to conduct school, in part, because of the effectiveness of the investigative work by our Richmond Police Department and the Ray County Sheriff’s Department.
In an abundance of caution, today there is an increased presence of Richmond Police at the high school. As earlier reported, no tangible threat to any school or student has been confirmed as a result of the social media post. The police investigation is continuing.
Please do not hesitate to contact your child's school principal or our superintendent's office if you have questions regarding school and student safety. The phone number for RHS is 816-776-2226.

Dear Parents and Guardians:
As we get ready to start the school year there are many questions regarding COVID-19 and the beginning of the school year. Students will not be required to wear a face covering in the school building. To limit the number of students quarantined and to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we encourage students to wear a face covering. Our goal is to maintain in-person learning for the entire school year.

If you were unable to attend open enrollment in June, you need to go to any building to enroll your student(s) for the 21-22 school year.
All transportation changes need to be turned in by August 17 to any building office.

The beginning of school is fast approaching and we continue to stay focused on creating a safe learning environment for our students. To best serve our students academic & social-emotional needs, we are committed to starting the school year with in person classes.
The Richmond R-XVI School Board voted in July to make masks optional for students and staff in all district facilities. Due to the US Department of Transportation’s mask mandate, all students will be required to wear masks while riding the bus.
The Richmond R-XVI School District will remain vigilant in our disinfecting practices. We continue to encourage self-monitoring of symptoms and ask that your child stay home if they are sick. We cannot ignore that the threat of this virus remains, and we must take all prudent steps to keep our schools from contributing to the spread of the illness within our community.
The Richmond School District will continue to monitor and adjust protocols and procedures as needed throughout the school year.
